A very important criterion for classifying games, in addition to genre affiliation, is the monetization systems integrated into them. The fact that developers want to make a profit from their work is natural, and they choose different ways to do this.

According to the system of monetization games are:

  • Paid (Paid). The buyer pays for a copy of the game once, getting the full amount of content. It is possible to buy new additions.
  • Freemium (Shareware). Part of the game content is provided free of charge, if player wants to get more – pays.
  • With periodic subscription (Subscribe). To have access to the game, you need to pay a regular subscription (once a month / year, etc.), at the same time, updates and additions to the games, most often available for free.
  • Free-to-play games with in-game purchases and/or advertisements (Free-to-Play). These games are conditionally free, but usually to be able to compete on an equal footing with other players, you have to pay. In some of these games, in-game purchases are so necessary that they are sometimes called Pay-To-Win (pay to win).
  • The variety of computer games allows everyone to find something to their liking and pockets, most importantly – choose consciously.
